A case of car arson is being investigated by the Famagusta Police Department.

Specifically, on Thursday, June 9, at around 00:30, information was received at the Ayia Napa police station that there was a fire in a car that was parked in the parking lot of the Ayia Napa post office.

The scene was immediately visited by members of the local station, TAE Famagusta, YKAN and the Fire Service.

The fire at the time in question had spread to two adjacent vehicles.

A police investigation revealed that the vehicle from which the fire started belonged to a 47-year-old man from Larnaca, an employee of a brewery in Ayia Napa who was working at the time in question.

The scene was cordoned off by members of the Famagusta Police Department and was guarded until the first light of day when it was visited again by investigators from the Famagusta Police Department and the Fire Service.

Examinations revealed that the fire was started maliciously with the use of flammable material. From the scene which was photographed, the investigators received various items for scientific examinations.

The 47-year-old in an oral interview did not express suspicions against any person nor does he know the reasons that led to the burning of his vehicle.

The investigators of TAE Famagusta immediately started investigations both in the area, seeking testimony from KKBP (Closed Circuit Video Surveillance) and residents of the area, as well as from the personal and professional environment of 47 years.
