The trial for the alleged rape of a tourist that took place on September 3 in Ayia Napa and was scheduled to begin today was postponed before the Permanent Criminal Court of Famagusta.

Information from the KYPE states that the five foreigners aged 20 and 19 appeared before the Criminal Court, in order to be charged and to answer.

However, the proceedings were postponed after the suspects' defense lawyers asked for more time to hand over various evidence such as DNA results, fingerprints and photographic material.

Thus, the Criminal Court set the case for October 16, when the Prosecuting Authority will bring charges against the five suspects regarding rape, sexual abuse by penetration, forcible intercourse, coercion to commit intercourse or other acts of a sexual nature, indecent assault against a woman, sexual harassment and kidnapping.

It is recalled that the tourist, aged 20, reported to the Police that she was the victim of rape by a number of people, in a hotel in Ayia Napa, and after obtaining testimony from the Police, the five people were arrested.
