Thus he joined that unequal struggle of the EOKA for the liberation of the small-bitter homeland. And the eighteen-year-old Evagoras Pallikaridis "The Vagoris", as his relatives affectionately called him, took "the uphill and the path" to reward her. His own life would be the price, and he knew it, but he didn't care. Against the English conqueror, he raised his stature, and one spring morning, breathed his last on the gallows, for the sake of this FREEDOM and for the sake of his island. "May I be the last to die on the gallows," were his final words, before he passed out. And indeed he was the last fighter to be hanged. History ranked Vagoris among the immortals.
