Both the lecture on "The Autism Spectrum and Social Interaction" addressed to parents and the conference for teachers on "The Autism Spectrum - the difficulties in the daily life of the school, a behavior management workshop" were crowned with great success. Both the lecture and the conference were organized by the Famagusta Autism Support Association in collaboration with the Famagusta POED provincial office.
The speaker at both was the Greek Speech Therapist Mr. Ioannis Vogindroukas, who analyzed the nature of autistic disorder, the cognitive difficulties that coexist with it and the behavioral problems that people with autism may present in their daily lives.
He also explained the techniques and ways in which teachers within the School could facilitate the learning and integration of children with autism into society.
The lecture at the Museum was honored by the presence of the Mayor of Ayia Napa Mr. Giannis Karousos while the meeting was greeted by the President of POED Famagusta Mr. Loukas Tsoukkas.
In his greeting, Mr. Toukkas thanked the association for inviting them to cooperate for the day. He stressed that due to the rapid growth of children with autism, it is now necessary to inform both parents and teachers about the proper way to manage them in order to contribute to the smoothest possible integration in school and in general to improve their standard of living.
It is also noted that the venues of both the lecture and the conference were donated to the Municipality of Ayia Napa and the Nissi Beach Resort Hotel on a non-profit basis.
