Former Mayor of Ayia Napa and current Minister of Transport, Giannis Karousos, exercised his right to vote with mixed feelings and emotion.

"An important day for Ayia Napa, she is voting for her future," he said, adding that he hoped the next day would find Ayia Napa in a climate of unity, whatever the outcome.

Asked if he expects the new mayor to continue his work, he said he would hand over a municipality that has already been given a very serious job.

"There are projects worth 23 million euros that have been included in the budgets, there are other projects worth 25 million which are maturing. Ayia Napa, he continued, is now the most sustainable Municipality of Cyprus with millions in surpluses while its revenues have doubled in recent years ".

The next mayor will start on solid foundations to implement his policy, Mr Karousos added.

He also sent two advices to his successor:

"The first piece of advice is unity. The second, he continued, is that the Municipality, the public interest must be above all, above personal interests. Whoever is elected, I will always be by his side to help and support Ayia Napa. "
