Around 3:30 yesterday afternoon, members of the Port and Maritime Police located and intercepted a wooden boat which was located 14 nautical miles southeast of Cape Greco in the province of Famagusta. There were 26 people on board, namely 19 men, 3 women and 4 minor children.
On the same day and around 5:30 in the afternoon, members of the Port and Maritime Police located and intercepted a second wooden boat with 36 people on board, namely 26 men, 3 women and 7 minor children.
All the above persons were taken safely to the Ayia Napa Marina where during the subsequent control, five persons were arrested on the basis of court orders, two 28-year-olds, one 19-year-old, one 38-year-old and one 22-year-old, who are said to be the operators of the two boats.
The five arrested were taken into custody, while the rest were taken to the Pournara accommodation facility.
