The Police arrested a 37-year-old man yesterday, after the arrival of a boat in the sea area of ​​Famagusta, carrying irregular immigrants.

A judicial arrest warrant was issued against the 37-year-old, to facilitate the investigations regarding the case of assisting third-country nationals for illegal entry into the Republic of Cyprus.

Specifically, yesterday at noon, a suspicious vessel was detected by the radars of the Coastal and Maritime Police in the sea area southeast of Cape Greco.

Shortly after XNUMX:XNUMX p.m., the suspect vessel was spotted and intercepted by a Coast and Marine Police vessel eight nautical miles southeast of Cape Greco.

A total of 18 men (among them a minor) were on board the approximately five meter long boat, who were safely transported to the Ayia Napa marina.

According to testimony obtained, the driver of the boat was the 37-year-old man, who was arrested on a warrant.

Subsequently, after the completion of the relevant procedures, the irregular immigrants were transferred to the accommodation center for irregular immigrants "Pournara".
