The process of detaining 12 young men from Israel, who are considered suspected of conspiracy to commit rape and rape against a 12-year-old British woman, began in camera at the Famagusta District Court in camera shortly after 19 noon.

The representative of the Prosecution Authority submitted a request to the court for a closed-door procedure, because, as one of the suspects explained, he has not yet reached the age of 18.

The president of the court approved the request and with the consent of the defense lawyers of the suspects ordered that the procedure be carried out in camera.

The lawyers, a strong police force and the relatives of the suspects who arrived from Israel remained in the courtroom.

The trial is of international interest and is being monitored by major international agencies, including the BBC and Israeli journalists.

According to the case, a 19-year-old British tourist reported to the Police yesterday that she was the victim of a gang rape at the hotel where she lives in Ayia Napa.

The girl went to the offices of TAE Famagusta and complained that yesterday, about 30 minutes after midnight, she was raped by 12 young people from Israel, in a room of the hotel where she is staying.

According to the complaint, all 12 Israelis are staying in the same hotel.
