The "Christmas idiot", the one that included the paving of the northeastern pier of the port of Ayia Napa with tens of liters of used engine oil, is wanted by Ayia Napa and the Famagusta Police Department.
Speaking to the newspaper "Phileleftheros", the mayor Giannis Karousos stated that "the idiotic characterization of Christmas for this unknown person is not his, but of the citizens of Ayia Napa, which refers to how they feel about this unthinkable energy".
"The idiot of Christmas", he added, "acted on the night of Christmas Eve and when we woke up on the morning of the holiday, residents, tourists, hundreds of Nicosians, who honored us this year with their presence for three days, were faced with this act and awful spectacle ".
The mayor of Ayia Napa also stated that the case was reported on Christmas day to the Famagusta Police Department, which, through the investigation of closed circuits of security cameras of leisure centers, is trying to find something that will help the investigations. "We hope that it will be located and then it will pay dearly for the damage it caused not only to the paving, but mainly to the image and the good reputation of Ayia Napa," said Mr. Karousos.
Today, Thursday, crews of the Municipality, following technical advice from experts and with the use of special strong laxatives will try to wash the stain beyond 30 meters caused by the unknown "idiot of Christmas", with his reckless act.
The effort is expected to be assisted voluntarily by some citizens, but also residents of the greater Famagusta area, wanting in this way to condemn the incident. The statement of the mayor of Ayia Napa was typical for this, that "this is the worst vandalism that took place not only in the port of the municipality, but also in any other public space of the town".
The cost of the cleaning effort is expected to amount to hundreds of euros, not counting the human effort.
