Families of Famagusta sent a message of reunification of Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriots from the Deryneia roadblock

The young people of Famagusta, Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots, expressed their demand for the settlement of the Cyprus problem, the reunification of Cyprus and the opening of the roadblock, who held an event at the Deryneia roadblock on Sunday afternoon. The event was organized by EDON in the context of the fortnightly rapprochement 2018.

In his statements, the District Secretary of EDON Famagusta Andreas Panagiotou referred to the common vision of Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots for the future of a reunited.

As he stated, "We envision a Famagusta that will be a model of coexistence of Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots in the context of a reunited Cyprus."

In her statements, Gunner Gulham, representative of CTP Y- (Cyprus-International Union of Socialist Youth) referred to the common desire to open the Deryneia roadblock. "We are here to express our desire for the opening of the roadblock between Deryneia and Famagusta. "We want this to be done as soon as possible, in order to speed up the reunification process," he said.

The Mayor of Deryneia Andros Karagiannis stated that the Municipality of Deryneia welcomes such initiatives of young people, especially when they have to do with the cooperation of Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots such as the youth of EDON Famagusta and the youth of the party CTP Union - Social Youth) of Famagusta. He expressed his support for the reunification of the island and as he mentioned "We believe that reunification will come first of all through the youth because the youth often shows the way to the older ones as well. We are able to learn from the young people and I congratulate both the Greek Cypriots and the Turkish Cypriot youth who support peace in our country ".

The young people symbolically threw colorful balloons in the air. At the end of the event they were guided by the Mayor of Deryneia Andros Karagiannis to the Open Air Museum of Traditional Professions of the Municipality of Deryneia.
