The reconstruction of the road network in the Municipality of Deryneia, which was damaged by the construction of the sewerage system, will be done with government funds.
The above refers to an answer of the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Marios Dimitriadis on October 30 to a question of MP George Perdikis.
As stated by the Minister of Transport in his letter, “the Municipality of Deryneia has requested an additional amount for the reconstruction of roads under its jurisdiction, which have been destroyed by the execution of sewerage works, namely Omonia and Kalythion streets. The request was submitted to the President of the Republic and according to his announcements, the corresponding amount will be granted to the Municipality for the paving of these roads. "
Perdikis: "Improvement of roads is necessary"
In the letter sent from 2/6/2017 by the President of the Movement of Ecologists-Citizens' Cooperation to Mr. Dimitriadis states that some roads of Deryneia have been destroyed by the execution of the sewerage project. Some roads, such as Omonia and Kalythion streets, have suffered landslides due to poor workmanship and for this reason their total improvement and paving is required.
According to the letter, the municipality of Deryneia is unable to proceed with the improvement of the above roads, since the amount of € 250.000 granted to the municipality after the visit of the President of the Republic in Famagusta, on May 30, 2015, will be spent on partial paving of others roads within Deryneia, which have also been damaged by the imperfections of the contractors of the sewerage project. ”

In his reply on October 30, the Minister of Transport stated that the landscaping of the roundabout between the Municipalities of Deryneia and Paralimni does not fall within the competence of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works, as it concerns urban planning (Department of Urban Planning and Housing). Therefore, he said, the Municipalities of Deryneia and Paralimni can prepare a study for the landscaping of the roundabout and send it for approval to the Department of Public Works for the purpose of ensuring road safety. Regarding the cost of this configuration, it should be borne by the Municipalities. Any agreement, notes the announcement made between the Municipalities and other Services to cover the cost, does not concern the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works.
