The Annual Environmental Awards took place on the night of Thursday, June 6, 2019 in Nicosia, in a crowded room and in an emotional atmosphere. The awards this year were given to individuals, groups and initiatives of active citizens who played a leading role in struggles for environmental protection during the period 2018 - 2019.

Among other things, the Director of the Cyprus Fire Service, Markos Tragolas, originally from the province of Famagusta, received an environmental award for his outstanding contribution to society and his contribution to the preservation of the natural environment.

In an announcement, the Movement of Ecologists-Citizens' Cooperation states that Markos Tragolas has proved that under the uniform of the Director of the Fire Brigade, there is a man with a real interest in his homeland and a special concern for the preservation and protection of the natural environment.

He enlisted in the Fire Department in 1979 as a firefighter and went through all levels of the Service. He holds a law degree from the National Kapodistrian University of Athens.

He was the first Commander of EMAK and was one of its founding members.

After the explosion and the tragic events at the Naval Base, Evangelos Florakis on July 11, 2011 and the loss of 13 of our fellow human beings, took over the Management of the Fire Service as Deputy Director in one of the most difficult periods in its history.

He was the Head of Mission of Cyprus in the deadly fires of 2007 in Greece and was honored by the Presidents of the Hellenic Republic and the Republic of Cyprus.

As Assistant Operations Director and Director of the Fire Service, he has taken part in, managed and coordinated a number of firefighting operations, urban, forest fires, specialized rescues and large-scale incidents.

The evening, which was accompanied by music by the orchestra of the Pancyprian Association "Charisma" for children with special needs, combined with the awards and the attitudes of the recipients, created a moving atmosphere but also sent an encouraging message to them. struggles given by both the Ecologists 'Movement - Citizens' Cooperation, as well as ordinary citizens in favor of quality of life, protection of the environment and the fact that there is a long way to go to achieve the desired results.
