An appeal to the government and the parties to act immediately to find a solution to the issue of the establishment of the temporary Coordinating Council for the Provincial Organization of Self-Government of the Famagusta District, the Municipality of Deryneia addresses.

In a statement it is stated that "the Municipal Council of Deryneia held an emergency meeting at noon on Thursday, December 8 and discussed the situation, as it has been created for the establishment of the temporary Coordinating Council for the Provincial Organization of Self-Government of the Province of Famagusta".

It is added that "unanimously, the Municipal Council expresses great disappointment in the fact that we observe that the province of Famagusta remains once again the last province that will start the work for the smooth transition to the new order of things, according to the Legislation for the reform of the Local Self-Government". The issue, continues the announcement, "should have been legislated from the publication of the Legislation as was done with the other provinces and not be left to each one to conclude by himself and act behind the scenes, in order to achieve in other ways what what he thinks is right".

It is also reported that "the topic of discussion has developed into an issue between the Municipalities of Agia Napa and Paralimni, but essentially concerns the entire province of Famagusta, Municipalities and Communities. We should all together demand that this issue end immediately and not make continuous statements with insinuations."

The announcement also states "the permanent position of the Municipality of Deryneia during the discussion of the Local Government Reform Bill, which was its merger with the Municipality of Famagusta, which was rejected by the House of Representatives, because the occupied municipalities were outside the Legislation ».

It is also noted that "according to the statements of the Mayor of Ayia Napa, his wish is not to delete the Metropolitan Municipality of Famagusta, something that is also a permanent position of the Municipality of Deryneia. Our Municipality has never done anything that refers to such a thing and in no case does it wish to do so."

It is also reported that "even though the Municipal Council in its previous session agreed with the Bill submitted by the Government, it recommends that since there is no consensus, the second largest Municipality, that is Deryneia, should take over".

"In the event that this is not accepted either, we agree that the Mayor of Famagusta presides with legislative regulation as an exception, based at the Cultural Center of the Municipality of Famagusta in Deryneia, which is the only building that the Municipality has in the province", it is added. The Municipal Council of Deryneia "calls on the government and the parties to act immediately to find a solution to this hot issue".
