Mayor of Deryneia: "Deryneia is a poor relative"

Regarding his meeting in the Municipality of Deryneia, G.G. of AKEL said that the main problems that concern the Municipality were discussed and expressed "regret, because although some of these problems date back" and have been raised several times by both the Mayor and himself in the competent Ministries, "unfortunately we find that they have not proceed to resolve them, except for a few things. During the recent visit of the President of the Republic to the province of Famagusta, "Deryneia was again the poor relative. It seems that the priority is given to the other Municipalities for understandable reasons ", as he said and noted that he will raise again before the competent Ministers the issues that have been reported to us and I hope and wish that a real hierarchy will take place, so that there is development throughout area and not only in some Municipalities ".

"Long delays at the Deryneia roadblock"

For his visit to the Deryneia Roadblock "at the point where the road will be opened for there to be traffic as it has been decided for more than a year", G.G. of AKEL said that "works are being done, but I must note that absolutely nothing has been done in the dead zone yet. We will ask questions to find out why there is this long delay ", he said and added that" while the roadblocks should be opened until today and there should be traffic, there is a very long delay ".

"At the moment, the General Hospital of Famagusta cannot participate in GESY"

Referring to his visit to the General Hospital of Famagusta in Paralimni, the Secretary General AKEL said that "once again we find that, unfortunately, there are too many problems in terms of infrastructure and staff, which should be there to be able to meet the increased needs that arise from the fact that it operates in a tourist area, resulting in very high traffic during the summer. I want to reiterate that if the government does not decide to spend money on health, the problems will continue and in my view, we will not be able to implement a General Health Plan. "

As the hospital in Famagusta is currently, he continued, "he cannot participate in the GESS. First and foremost, there needs to be an organizational chart, to decide which clinics will be set up, to have the necessary staffing, the necessary infrastructure and equipment, and all this requires money that the government does not have, unfortunately, for perhaps the most important areas. the health sector. Only in this way will the Hospital of Famagusta be able to become autonomous and function as the backbone of GeSY for the province of Famagusta ".

At the same time, Andros Kyprianou addressed "a call to the President of the Republic and the Minister of Finance to understand that with the philosophy with which they approach health issues, they will not be able to operate GESS, this may be their goal, of course."

"The Turkish side seeks to consolidate itself"

Mr. Kyprianou said that "it is obvious that on the ground now, after the negative result in Krans Montana, the Turkish side is trying to consolidate what has been done, to deepen what has been done even more, so that it will be difficult for the Cyprus issue to be resolved." So the President of the Republic and everyone needs to understand that it is not with communication games or slogans that caress the ears of the people, but essentially consolidate the accomplished, that an issue that has to do with the future must be addressed. and the survival of the country, but above all of our people in the place where we were born. "

He added that "it is necessary to take an honest initiative immediately after the Presidential elections on the basis of the framework set by the Secretary General. of the UN, so that we can resolve the Cyprus issue. The commitment that we, as AKEL, undertake is that immediately after the elections, we will discuss with Mr. Malas, who will be the next President, so that in a specific period of time the negotiations will be completed with the aim of resolving the Cyprus issue ".
