Three European programs were recently hosted by the Municipality of Deryneia, in the context of its participation in the European programs Europe for Citizens and Erasmus +.
A press release of the Municipality states that "the programs hosted are" KNOTS on "Knowledge not Euroscepticism", STEP ONE on "Traditional sports educate the new Europe" and WAVES "Water actions are used for socialization of Europeans ". The programs were attended by 71 people from Hungary, the Czech Republic, Lithuania, Slovenia, Malta, Spain, Poland, Portugal, Latvia, Greece, Serbia and Italy.
It is added that "through the Europe for Citizens event, the participants attended a Cypriot program of dances and songs by the dance group of the Municipality of Deryneia and the waving flags of Sbandieratori delle Sette Contrade from Orte, Italy".
"A visit was made to occupied Famagusta and information on the Cyprus problem was made, with visitors failing to understand that such a thing is happening in a European country, raising the question of why Europe is not promoting a solution to the Cyprus problem."
During the activities, a Beach Volley tournament and water sports competitions were organized in the Landa area of Ayia Napa, with the participation of eight teams consisting of six players with the youth team of Renaissance Deryneia emerging as the winner.
According to the press release, "the citizens of Deryneia who participated in the previous programs in other countries of the European Union, contributed voluntarily to the whole event. The Municipality, through the programs that took place, gained new friends and contributed to the exchange of views between the participants for a better Europe ".
