An alarm was raised by the mass arrivals of immigrants on the afternoon of Sunday, March 31, 2024. In particular, five boats loaded with immigrants from Syria entered the Republic illegally with more than 270 immigrants in total, the majority of them men.
The 271 persons constitute the second largest mass flow of immigrants in our country in recent times.
The competent services, KSED and Coast Guard operated for hours off Cape Greco for the safe transport of the immigrants who arrived from a safe country, Lebanon.
Specifically, 21 people were found in the first boat, 179 in the second, 22 in the third, 24 in the fourth and another 20 people in the fifth boat. All were transferred in cooperation with the state services to the Pournara Migrant Reception Center.
Today, the four arrested, aged 18, 23, 26 and 43, who are alleged to be the traffickers of the 272 people who were on the five boats spotted on Sunday afternoon in Cabo Greco, were brought before the court.
The court decided on the eight-day detention of all four persons.
