A 34-year-old man was sentenced to three years in prison today by the District Court of Famagusta, a XNUMX-year-old man who was found guilty after a trial of a case related to offenses committed during the transport of a number of illegal immigrants, by sea boat, in the area of ​​the free Famagusta, last year July.

Specifically, the 34-year-old was found guilty by the District Court, for committing the offences,

  1. assisting the illegal entry of persons from a third country into the territory of the Republic,
  2. assisting a person of a third country with intent and for the purpose of making a profit,
  3. transporting a person by waterway in an unsafe vessel,
  4. forgery,
  5. impersonation, as well as
  6. for an offense in relation to the Prohibited Immigrants Act.

The case concerned the arrival in the sea area of ​​Famagusta, off Cabo Greco, on July 15, 2023, of 47 irregular migrants, in a marine vessel approximately nine meters long. From the examinations carried out by the Police, evidence emerged against the 34-year-old, who was also the boat's navigator. He was arrested on the same day, while upon completion of the police examinations, the Police proceeded to immediately register the case, for adjudication by the District Court of Famagusta.

The case was investigated by the Famagusta Police Department.
