A delegation of TEBEA attended on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, a meeting held at the Paralimni Town Hall to discuss the Local Plan of Paralimni - Deryneia - Agia Napa.

In the presence of the Deputies of Famagusta and local authorities of the free province of Famagusta, it was established by all present the unjustified obstruction of the competent authorities and the successive delays that reach the limits of mockery, as the procedures for the local plan that have started since 2014 are still continuing in the year 2023, with no final date for their completion visible on the horizon.

Unfortunately, as the Tourist, Commercial and Industrial Company of Famagusta states in its statement, the concerns expressed in an earlier meeting with the former Minister of the Interior, during which we expressed the opinion that the publication of the Local Plan of Paralimni - Deryneia - Ayia Napa should be set as a top priority by the Ministry and the competent and involved authorities. Concerns and concerns that were never heard.

"The positions we expressed at the time, that the lack of a local plan creates enormous problems in the development of the above Municipalities and therefore of the free Province of Famagusta, are as relevant as ever. Especially since the whole process has been known to be in its final stages for a few years now, it's even holding back the planning of projects and developments as everyone waits for the new Local Plan to be released to move forward. The delay observed in the whole matter also creates the risk that the Local Plan that will be published will not meet today's needs as too many years have passed since the process of drawing it up began and since then many things have changed.

We could write a lot about what reasons lie behind the unjustified delay in the preparation of the Local Plan, however, in order not to indulge in an endless backstory that will lead nowhere, we are prepared in good faith to let the competent authorities complete their work , as long as they abandon the practices of delays and speed up the procedures for drawing up and approving the Local Plan as soon as possible.

At the same time, we welcome the decisions taken at the meeting and specifically, the initiative of the MPs to register the matter with the Interior Committee in order to start the exercise of Parliamentary Control and also the initiative of the President of the Democratic Party, Mr. Nikolas Papadopoulos, to arrange a delegation meeting of all parties, Mayors and other bodies with the President of the Republic to examine the issue.

Therefore, we call on the government and the competent authorities to do everything necessary to solve this very important problem that deprives the three municipalities of significant income and development opportunities while at the same time condemning the province of Famagusta to the role of the poor relative.

We are willing as the Tourist Commercial Industrial Company of Famagusta, to practically support the efforts of all three municipalities, participating alongside them in their consultations with the competent bodies but also by conducting wider contacts and meetings with the interested parties until the injustice that is done is remedied .”
