Farmers in free Famagusta are facing the irreparable damage left by the frost that has hit the island in recent days.

The low temperatures forced the farmers to fight unequally with the low temperatures all day and night, trying to keep their agricultural crops alive.

According to Mr. Tassos Giapanis, Secretary General of the Panagrotikos Association, after a tour that took place in the free province of Famagusta, in Kokkinochoria, they realized that the frost really froze the farmers. While noting that this is the same story every year, adding that ""Where the producer, the farmer, has done all the work from Alpha to Omega, the exogenous factor of the weather is coming, to affect and destroy their incomes."

As it was found, the frost has caused irreparable damage, mainly to potato crops in the whole area of Kokkinochoria, with the agricultural organizations appealing to the Government for financial support.

Mr. Giannakis Gabriel, District Secretary of EKA Famagusta, stated that The Department of Agriculture has already been called upon to record the damage and appealed to the agricultural world, when it cultivates, to declare its crops within 21 days so that it can be compensated. He also appealed to the Ministry for immediate payment of compensation.

It is pointed out that, as the farmers report, the destruction of crops due to frost, inevitably leads to an increase in prices due to reduced production, with the result that the cost is passed on to consumers.
