The District Court of Famagusta issued today a detention order for six days, against a 23-year-old man, to facilitate the Police's investigations regarding an investigated case of illegal transportation of people to Cyprus.
Specifically, on the afternoon of Friday November 10, but also in the early hours today, the radars of the Coastal and Maritime Police detected 3 boats sailing off the sea area in the free province of Famagusta.
Coastal and Maritime Police vessels went to the area where the boats were located with 23 people on board one, 19 on the second and about 100 on the third.
The two boats with the 42 on board were safely transported to the fishing shelter in Protaras where, after the necessary registration procedures were done, they were then transferred to the "Pournara" Reception Center in Kokkinotrimithia.
The third boat with 100 people was escorted to Larnaca where their details were also recorded and then they were transferred to "Pournara".
Tests carried out resulted in testimony against a 23-year-old man who was allegedly the driver of the boat carrying the 23 people, and he was arrested to facilitate investigations.
Today, the 23-year-old was brought before the District Court of Famagusta, which issued a detention order against him for six days.
Meanwhile, tests carried out on the boat with the 100 people resulted in testimony against a 19-year-old who was allegedly the driver of the boat and he was arrested.
On Sunday, the young man is expected to be brought before a Court for the issuance of a detention order.
