The occupancy of hotels in the first months of 2024 in the free province of Famagusta is at the same levels as last year according to the President of PASYXE Famagusta Panagiotis Constantinou.
Speaking to Famagusta News, Mr. Constantinou said that the occupancy in the province's hotels ranges from 30-40%, except for a few hotel units that host football teams.
"Winter is difficult for us and the province of Famagusta, there are very few hotel units that are in operation. We are waiting for March and April to have a better occupancy," he added.
Regarding Valentine's Day, traffic will be increased from the Cypriot market due to the programs organized by the hotel units.
Mr. Constantinou said that "Valentine's Day is a small "injection" for the hotel units, but it is only for one night."
He added that Cyprus' competitors at this time are countries such as Turkey, Spain, Italy and France for the reason that these countries are established in Winter tourism.
When asked if bookings for the summer were down because of the ongoing war in Ukraine and Israel, he said that the ups and downs in the flow of bookings are constant.
"I think we're at a good level, but if bookings keep going down it's definitely going to be a problem."
The scourge of understaffing in hotels continues to worry hoteliers.
"We are in communication with the Ministry of Labor to give us better terms so that we can more easily employ personnel from third countries." There is understanding and consideration, he added.
