The big fire that broke out in the Sotiras Forest, between the Municipalities of Ayia Napa and Sotiras, was brought under control.
According to the Forest Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, the fire broke out a few minutes after 6.00 in the afternoon in a forest area where there are houses in the Ayia Napa area and burned wild vegetation and dry grass.
Strong firefighting forces attempted to extinguish the fire and more specifically three vehicles and the two aircraft of the Department of Forestry as well as three vehicles of the Fire Service and the two helicopters of the Force.
The fire was brought under control shortly after 8.00 tonight, however it is expected that a vehicle of the Forest Department will remain in the area in case of re-ignition of the fire.
