The Famagusta Chamber of Commerce and Industry proposes the "immediate creation of the State Ministry of Tourism based in the Free Province of Famagusta".
In its announcement, EVEA notes that it submits this proposal taking into account the vital importance of the tourism sector in the local economy, as well as the declared position of EBE Famagusta and the CCCI for the need to establish a Ministry of Tourism.
Also the fact that the Famagusta Free Zone is the pre-eminent tourist resort of Cyprus with the largest number of hotel beds and apartments throughout Cyprus and its large contribution to GDP, but also the essential role that tourism plays in the economic development and prosperity of the Free Famagusta.
As mentioned, the request of EVEA has been forwarded to the Government and is expected to be accepted given the huge contribution of the province of Famagusta in the development of the tourism product as well as the proven experience and know-how of the people of Famagusta in tourism issues.
"EVEA considers that the Province of Famagusta is entitled to the Ministry of Tourism with the same reasoning that led to the housing of the Ministry of Shipping in Limassol, which is the pre-eminent shipping center of Cyprus," it is noted.
