The meeting of the delegation of the farmers of the fields of wheat producers and potato producers with the Minister of Agriculture Petros Xenophontos on the subject of their financial support from the Government has been completed.
It is recalled that after yesterday's protest the farmers held a meeting in the morning with the Minister during which decisions were taken which satisfy the farmers.
In his statements, the Minister of Agriculture said that a working group will be set up, there was a report and a commitment to examine requests from other sectors, an emergency grant will be granted to cover part of the charge for overconsumption of water for irrigation purposes at 17 cents instead of 45 cents. He also referred to the risk management fund with the aim of increasing the loss rate and production averages.
The Minister of Agriculture emphasized that "we have decided that we will consider immediate payment of compensations for drought and other damages in 2023. The fund management committee will be convened."
He added that there will be a simplification of procedures for the applications submitted by farmers, within the framework of the CAP.
The President of the Panagrotic Association Kyriakos Kailas said that "what is done is done. We came here with positive energy. Everything the Minister said is in the right direction. All this is part of the help that the farmer can have today."
Mr. Kailas said that tomorrow the farmers are expected to meet with KOAP.
