"Now the process of mergers begins and there will be many changes," said after the presentation of the new administrative map of Cyprus, the outgoing mayor of Ayia Napa and new Minister of Transport Giannis Karousos.
In his first reaction ("From day to day", RIK) Mr. Karousos expressed the assessment that there will be new criteria and many changes. As he said, the Municipal Council of Ayia Napa will be positioned in the coming days based on the proposal of the Minister, but also based on how it will proceed or react.
He claimed that because the Minister of Interior mentioned the alternative plan, nothing is over.
Asked whether he insists on the position that Ayia Napa should maintain its autonomy, Giannis Karousos stated that "the positions I had as mayor and that the Municipal Council has will not change because I became Minister of Transport."
"It's the beginning, it's not the end," he concluded.
It is reminded that in the free province of Famagusta two new municipalities are created, the Municipality of Ayia Napa Protaras and the Municipality of Kokkinochorion.
