Just a few minutes of hail was enough to destroy the crops in the free province of Famagusta.
The affected areas were visited by the District Secretary of EKA Famagusta, Giannakis Gabriel, who talks about complete disasters.
"Unfortunately, once again the potato crop has been completely destroyed," said Mr. Gabriel, explaining that tomorrow will show more clearly the magnitude of the destruction.
"We expect the Department of Agriculture to record the damage immediately so that the compensation can be paid immediately, so that the potato growers can at least plant again in November," he continued.
Failure to do so, he said, "will lead to a complete disaster for further potato plantations, causing chain problems."
Mr. Gabriel called on the agriculture department to visit the province immediately, record the damage and proceed with the compensation provided by the new agricultural insurance plan.
According to Mr. Gabriel, the disasters took place throughout the province.
