The two people, 52 years old, who were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and attempted destruction of property with explosives, which was committed on December 24, 2020, in the province of Famagusta, have been released.

According to the Police, one person was arrested yesterday, while the second, who is a resident of a village in the province of Famagusta, was arrested today with a court warrant, on the basis of testimony obtained against him.

Late in the afternoon, the two men were brought before the District Court of Famagusta to issue arrest warrants, but the House did not consider it appropriate to detain them, with the result that the two men were released.

According to the facts of the case, around 9.10 in the morning of December 24, there was an explosion at a point in the front yard of a recently erected house that remains uninhabited, owned by a 50-year-old man.

At the time of the explosion, the 50-year-old was in the yard of the house with the 34-year-old and neither of them was injured.

Members of the Police went to the scene, including members of the Fire Brigade and the Criminological Investigation Service, and investigations revealed that the explosion was due to a high-powered explosive device, which was placed in the yard of the house.

It is noted that for the same case another person aged 35 is in detention for six days.

The case is being investigated by the Famagusta Police Department.
