The 52-year-old man was arrested yesterday by the Police in the context of the investigation of a case of attempted murder and attempted destruction of property with explosives, committed on December 24, 2020 in the province of Famagusta.
Specifically, the explosion occurred around 9.10 in the morning on 24/12/2020 at a point in the front yard of a house that was recently built and remains uninhabited, owned by a 50-year-old man.
At the time of the explosion, the 50-year-old was in the yard of the house together with the 34-year-old. The two did not suffer any injuries.
Members of the Police, including members of the Fire Brigade and the Criminological Investigation Service, had gone to the scene for examinations. The explosion was found to be due to a high-powered explosive device, which was placed in the yard of the house.
The 52-year-old was arrested yesterday with a court warrant and was taken into custody to facilitate the investigations, while for the same case another person aged 35 is in detention for six days.
The charges against the 35-year-old foreigner so far concern attempted murder, attempted destruction of property with explosives and illegal possession and transportation of explosives.
The case is being investigated by the Famagusta Police Department.
