A new extension until May 2024 was given by the Department of Urban Planning and Housing to the contractor of the reconstruction of the Liopetriou River project.

Today the works at the construction site started with the community leader Liopetriou and the fishermen hoping for the completion of the grand project in May.

Despite the new extension, the community leader Liopetriou expressed his doubts as to whether in the coming months the contractor will have time to complete all the works.

Speaking to Famagusta News, the community leader Liopetriou Vassos Manoli said that "we hope that the project will be finished soon, but it is very difficult to finish it by May since it needs a lot of work".

The President of the Liopetriou Community Council said that next Tuesday we will be before the Agriculture Committee together with the professional fishermen to discuss the serious problems that have been created with the plans and the execution of the project.

"Fishermen are asking for some changes regarding the rigs for their greater convenience."

The community leader is also preparing a letter to the new Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment Maria Panagiotou, asking her to visit the offices of the Community Council and inspect the project closely.

According to the community leader, the road to the Liopetriou River will be closed for the next four months stating that visitors will be asked to use the road with the dangerous potholes.

Mr. Manolis emphasized that "it is a dangerous rural road that hides potholes, without lighting. It must be fixed immediately so that visitors can have easy access to the Liopetriou River."
