Speaking on the national issue, Mr. Syllouris said that the Republic of Cyprus must continue its painstaking political struggle, based on strategy, targeted and methodical plan, in a spirit of unanimity and determination, and pointed out that its intransigence and maximalist positions and demands , are the biggest obstacle and obstacle in the whole effort to solve the problem and find a fair and sustainable solution.
"Of course, it is obvious that Turkey does not want any fair solution, since its real goal is the complete occupation and control of Cyprus. "This relentless attitude degrades our dignity and intelligence, while the paradox is that we are entering a process of negotiating our own acquis and freedoms," said the Speaker of Parliament.
He added that anyone who does not realize that Ankara is moving the threads and fully influencing the Turkish Cypriot leadership, promoting its own interests on the island, unfortunately does not realize the reality. "However, despite the fact that the current data do not leave much room for action for the Greek Cypriot side, we must insist on our efforts with the same intensity and perseverance. "In no case are we allowed to accept or even accept a dichotomous solution, which will violate our human and national rights," he underlined.
The Speaker of the Parliament noted that the safeguarding of our borders, the territorial integrity of the state and the guarantee of human rights, freedom, security and equality, are not just political conditions of the negotiations, nor sterile conditions of the Greek Cypriot maps, but inalienable rights of Cypriot citizens.
"Therefore, any solution agreed between the two sides must be based on international law, European principles and values, the acquis communautaire and respect the principles and values of democracy. "Only in this way will the foundations be laid for a sustainable and auspicious future, making Cyprus a modern and functional state," he said.
The Speaker of Parliament also indicated that a fair solution will help in the parallel struggle for the upgrading of the state and the consolidation of its institutions and mechanisms. "Our responsibility is also to fight corruption, eliminate malice and build a state of law and equality. "And these are goals that can be achieved exclusively with our own efforts, without dependence on foreign factors," he pointed out.
