From postponement to postponement the completion of the works on the Liopetriou River. A new extension was given until July 1 to the project of remodeling the fishing shelter of the river Liopetriou.
Work on the site estimated at €11 million began in September 2020 with the aim of completion and delivery of the project in March 2023.
Despite the new extension, the community leader Liopetriou expressed his doubts as to whether the project will be completed in the coming months. The community leader Liopetriou stated that "I, as the community leader, doubt it because the project does not end on 01/07, it is up to 55% implementable, which means that the 45%, it takes a long time, it won't end by the end of 2024."
According to the Department of Urban Planning, there were delays, which were judged to be justified. The contractor is expected to complete the road leading to the River in the next few days.
The long delays in the project have an impact on the 30 fishermen who were active in the area, but also on the owners of the two large restaurants who count large losses of income.
The president of the Community Council pointed out that if there is any further delay, he will proceed with mobilizations.
Mr. Manolis added that "If we see that the project is not progressing, Liopetri should rise up. With the municipality of Agia Napa, all five villages of the Municipality of Agia Napa must rise up and rise up to cut the roads if the project is not finished.
The regeneration of the Liopetriou River is one of the biggest projects related to the fishing sector in Cyprus.
