The occupancy of the General Hospital of Famagusta, which operates as a Reference Hospital for patients with coronavirus, reached 99%, said Amalia Hatzigianni, Scientific Director of the General Hospitals of Larnaca - Famagusta.

He added that “today 74 patients with coronavirus are being treated at the Famagusta General Hospital, of which 6 are in the Intensive Care Unit, as they need closer monitoring, while 17 people are in bed. The Hospital has reached 99% of its fullness since a total of 75 people can be treated ".

He noted that "the general condition of many of the patients is considered serious and they are dependent on oxygen therapy. Once again, the pandemic seems to be affecting all ages with the average age of patients being treated at the Referral Hospital being reduced to 59, signaling that we are all vulnerable and we must all continue to adhere to protective measures. ”.

Answering a relevant question, Ms. Hatzigianni said that “the youngest patient in the hospital is a 26-year-old girl and the oldest is also an 80-year-old woman. to get sick and even severely ”.

Asked about the vaccination of the staff of Famagusta Hospital, he replied that "the vaccination of all staff is proceeding normally and this is a pleasant event. However, the vaccination was delayed for a while, because some of the staff had fallen ill during the Christmas period while some other people had presented contraindications ".

In her statements, Ms. Hatzigianni also referred to the staff of the Hospital who, as he characteristically said, “fights with the patients every day in order to improve their condition and return to their home, family and daily life. The staff has been accustomed to this situation for a long time, since they have been working at this pace for about 13 months now ".
