Nineteen years old is the youngest patient with coronavirus who is treated at the General Hospital of Famagusta which operates as a Referral Hospital.

As Amalia Hatzigianni, Scientific Director of the Larnaca-Famagusta General Hospitals, told KYPE, "currently 72 patients are being treated at the Reference Hospital, six of whom are in the Intensive Care Unit. The youngest patient in the hospital is 19 years old and the oldest is 84 ".

He added that "the average age of patients is 55 years. "Most of the patients who need to be hospitalized have pneumonia, the symptoms are manifested by fever, cough, gastrointestinal disorders and low oxygenation."

When asked why the increased admission of patients with coronavirus to hospitals for treatment, Ms. Hatzigianni replied that "the increased percentage of cases positive in the community, reflects the increased admissions to hospitals. With a thousand cases that exist every day in the last few days, it is logical after 3-4 days for these people to show symptoms and need treatment ".

He also noted that "since last Saturday, the Famagusta Hospital has returned to its function as a Reference Hospital for patients with coronavirus. Specifically, all the clinics of the Hospital operate exclusively as clinics Covid-19 having 75 beds, while at the same time the Department of Accidents and Emergencies, the Department of Dialysis and all outpatient clinics operate ".

He added that "the radiology laboratory and the Health Centers that support the Famagusta General Hospital are also operating".

To another question he answered that "what especially honors the staff of the General Hospital of Famagusta is that for 16 months now they have been working without protest and with great zeal and effort to provide the best health services. Thanks to their diligence, we continue to work and this is due to the teamwork shown by the staff of the Hospital ".

Regarding the issue of staff support at the Reference Hospital, he said that "for the last three days we have had assistance from the Ministry of Health. Specifically, three specialist doctors and as many other specialists came ".

On the issue of discharges and admissions of patients from the Hospital, Ms. Hatzigianni said that "unfortunately in the last two weeks there are more admissions and fewer discharges. We hope that in the coming days the situation will balance so that health professionals and the world can return to normal. "
