The problem that exists in the Hemodialysis Unit of the General Hospital of Famagusta will be solved, the Spokesman of the State Health Services Organization (OKYPY) Charalambos Charilaou told KYPE.

Asked to comment on the problems faced by the 50 kidney patients undergoing dialysis at the General Hospital of Famagusta, including the absence of doctors in the afternoons, weekends and holidays, Mr. Charilaou said that "the existing problem will be solved" .

It is recalled that last week the kidney patients sent a letter to the Scientific Director of Larnaca-Famagusta General Hospitals Amalia Hatzigianni, in which they state that "among the problems presented by the Hemodialysis Unit while the absence of doctors is the in the presence of nursing staff only. "Since August 14, 2020, there has been a request from the two doctors of the unit to work on call, however until today there has been no response", it is added.

It is added that in the Unit "there has been an understaffing of nursing staff for quite some time and the Hospital Management has decided that the two nurses of the Unit be moved to a ward covid-19 and be replaced by nurses of Larnaca General Hospital. The patients do not accept this situation because it seems that it is done intentionally by the Administration of the Larnaca General Hospital ".

The letter also states that the kidney patients of the free province of Famagusta "feel indignant and neglected. Larnaca General Hospital wants to send a kidney patient with Famagusta Hospital with covid-19"However, we cannot accept him due to the lack of proper infrastructure, the absence of a doctor after 2.30 pm and the absence of a night shift".

It is also noted that "in case of transfer of the patient with covid-19, who is undergoing dialysis at the General Hospital of Famagusta, there is a risk for the 50 patients in the area. As a sign of protest for the serious problems presented by the Hemodialysis Unit of the Hospital, the patients will abstain from their treatment on Wednesday, December 2 from 7.00 until 10.00 in the morning, while in case our requests are not accepted we will abstain. "indefinitely from the treatment".
