A 13-year-old student of the Kokkinochorion High School "Panos Ioannou" recently won the Second Photo Prize in a Global Competition of the program "Young Journalists for the Environment".

The student Andreas Kafouris and the professor of Therapist Therapontos participated and participated in the Global Competition "Young Reporters for the Environment 2019" (Young Reporters for the Environment - YRE 2019) in the category "Photography" 11-14 years old.

They managed to win the second prize and are the only award for our country.

The evaluations were made by an eleven-member jury consisting of academics, journalists, photographers, UNESCO members and environmentalists from around the world.

The competition in Cyprus is organized by the Ministry of Education and Culture and CYMEPA.

Embraced in life, embraced in death

The student Andreas Kafouris managed to stand out in the competition with his photo entitled "Embraced in life, embraced in death" which depicts the two lifeless bodies of two chameleons being embraced.

As the student explains in his work "Chameleons are animals with special abilities. They belong to the order of reptiles, but unlike other reptiles, they have a special ability. They can change the color of their body and do it the same with the environment they are in. This is a way of defending them. They are threatened by the destruction of their habitats, by the moving vehicles that cause high mortality on the roads, but also by the side trade, since chameleons are preferred as exotic pets. The above chameleons were also victims of the cars. His unique ability to adapt to his environment probably worked negatively in this case. "
