The 120 migrants of Syrian and Palestinian origin arrived yesterday afternoon by boat off Cape Greco.

According to the Police, around 14.30 pm, members of the Port and Maritime Police noticed that a boat with migrants was sailing unmanned, six nautical miles off Cape Greco.

Akatos of the Port and Maritime Police went to the area and the occupants of the boat, which sailed from Syria, boarded the akatos and were led out of the Golden Coast fishing shelter in Paralimni.

However, because the akatos could not enter the shelter, men of the Port Police transported the migrants by inflatable boat to the mainland, where their registration by the Aliens and Immigration Service began and their data are obtained.

On land with the inflatable boat of the Greek Navy, the families arrived first and then followed those who were on the boat unaccompanied and minors.

Immigrants include 14 unaccompanied minors, 3 women, 6 minor children from three families and 97 men of different ages.

The registration of the immigrants lasted several hours and shortly before midnight they were transferred to the Temporary Accommodation Center "Pournara" in Kokkinotrimithia.

According to the Police, pedestrians crossed from Syria to Turkey on different dates, each of them, and then paid an unknown person the sum of 4 thousand dollars to transport them to Cyprus.

The migrant traffickers managed to escape with another boat from the boat, since police investigations have not so far identified a captain, assistant captain or any other crew.

It is noted that in the fishing shelter were found from the first moment members of the Civil Defense who provided assistance to the migrants while the Medical Services carried out all the necessary checks.
