The Minister of Education, Costas Hambiaouris, toured Deryneia and Paralimni today to discuss the problems of the school units.
In his statements after the meeting at the School Ephorate of Paralimni, the Minister of Education sent the message that the Ministry is next to the remote areas, supports every citizen and his concern is every child, wherever he is and wherever he lives.
Regarding the request for the construction of a Lyceum in Deryneia, Costas Hambiaouris stated that in Deryneia the issue was raised to make the High School of Peace and Freedom (Sotiras-Deryneia) six-grade and Lyceum. This was an issue that had been raised for many years, but it was left on the sidelines, "he said, adding that" we see it positively and by Tuesday I will give my final answer. We are positive in the first phase, I want to see the data of the wider area and why not, if there should be a six-grade school, that is, a High School and Lyceum in Deryneia, we are positive ".
The Minister answered "of course" to a question whether the infrastructure of the High School of Peace and Freedom in Deryneia exists and whether the local authorities of Deryneia agree with it, adding that "the Mayor of Deryneia, the President of the School Tax Office, local actors were present at the meeting. and Members of Parliament and I think we are on a very good path. We see it positively and after studying all the data on Tuesday I will give my final answer ".
Asked about the construction of a new High School in Paralimni, Mr. Hambiaouris replied that “this issue was also discussed. "There are some thoughts, we have given solutions to the problems concerning the existing High School, we have discussed issues concerning the Lyceum of the area" he said and expressed the view that "we will find a solution and how we will proceed in the future in this issue".
Toula Moustaka - Tsolaki, President of the Parents 'Association of Paralimni High School expressed the association' s satisfaction with the Minister who "in the last few days was informed about the important building and not only problems that have plagued the High School for so many years. Today, the Minister visited the school and gave immediate, practical and long-term solutions and suggestions for dealing with these long-term problems ".
He added that "the Minister of Education today gave the solutions we asked for the key issues that plagued the Parents' Association of the High School and concerned the safety and health of students."
Besides, Solomos Konstantinou, President of the School Ephorate of Paralimni expressed "thanks to the Minister of Education because in the last 2-3 weeks we have really touched the problems that have plagued the High School of Paralimni for so long. Mr. Hambiaouris gave solutions to these chronic problems and now we are moving forward ".
At the same time he expressed "thanks to the deputies of Famagusta who attended the meeting and with their own views we proceeded to the very positive results we had".
