Shivers of emotion were caused by the final farewell addressed to the master of the Cypriot song Kyriakou Pelagia.
In an atmosphere of deep emotion, the "Mastorissa" of the Cypriot Traditional Song, Kyriakou Pelagia, was taken to her last residence.
The exodus ceremony was performed today, February 19, 2023 from the Metropolitan Church of Agios Georgios Paralimnion, presided over by the Metropolitan of Constantia and Famagusta, Mr. Vassiliou.
The Government was represented by the Deputy Minister of Culture, Mr. Yiannis Toumazis, who delivered a eulogy. The funeral was also delivered by the Metropolitan of Constantia and Famagusta, Mr. Vasilios, the Mayor of Paralimni, Mr. Theodoros Pyrillis, and on behalf of the family, the granddaughters of the deceased, Solia and Irini Pelagia, as well as Andreas Evangelou's nephew. The moment when her longtime collaborator and popular poet, Kyriakou Mouaimi, sang couplets in her memory, as well as the moment when popular poet, performer and researcher Michalis Hatzimikhail recited a poem, while he also sang verses together with Andri Karantoni and Stefanos Pelican.
A memorial service was also read by the popular performer and her collaborator, Vasiliki Hatziadamou.
The exit procession was also attended by the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Mr. Yiannis Karousos, the President of DISY, Mr. Averof Neophytou, members of parliament, a representative of the Chief of Police, representatives of parliamentary party leaders, a representative of the Paralimni School Board and representatives and members of Cultural Associations and other organizations as well as a multitude of persons and personalities who attended to say their last goodbye to the "nightingale" of Cypriot tradition.
The funeral was held following a decision of the Paralimni Municipal Council, at the expense of the Municipality.
