In the last 24 hours, the Fire Service responded to 108 incidents (96 fires, 7 special services and 5 false calls). Since the 10th of March, when the fires were recorded, which indirectly, but not clearly, concern the lampreys, it responded to a total of 242 incidents. During the night there were a total of 60 incidents involving lampreys, across all provinces. The responses regarding the lampreys continue today.

At 15:21 yesterday there was a response with two fire engines from Limassol Stations to a fire in an apartment building under construction in Kapsalos Limassol. The fire broke out on the roof of an apartment building. From the fire, 2 heat pumps and 6 air conditioner compressors were extensively damaged. At the time of the fire there were workers on site.

At 00:35 the Service responded with two fire engines to a fire in two parked vehicles on Kioprouluzade Street, near the Church of Agios Antonios in Limassol. One vehicle was an old commercial vehicle (defunct for a long time) and the other was a working Opel Corsa. The fire caused extensive damage to both vehicles that were 30 meters apart. When approaching the fire engines to extinguish the fire, we were pelted with stones by minors, fortunately without damage.

At 00.53 there was a call for a fire in a house in the Municipality of Paralimni and it concerned a small fire in a wooden cupboard caused by a lit candlestick (light of the Resurrection). It was extinguished by the owners before the arrival of the Fire Department. Only an inspection was carried out on behalf of the Fire Department.

At 02:20 we responded to a fire on the porch of a house in the Municipality of Geroskipou. The fire was on an outdoor wooden verandah and was probably caused by a lit candelabrum (light of the Resurrection) that was left on a wooden table. The house was not affected.

At 05:01 the Fire Department responded with two fire engines from Nicosia stations for a fire in four classrooms of the Agios Stylianos Gymnasium in Strovolos. The rooms and their equipment (office equipment, electronic equipment, books and stationery) suffered extensive damage from the fire. The heat and smoke also affected other classrooms and the painting of the verandas and staircases. An investigation into the cause of the fire will follow. A malicious act by minors is not excluded.
