The Minister of Transport, Communications and Works Vasiliki Anastasiadis made a tour in the area of ​​Perneras in Protaras at noon and then attended a meeting held at the offices of the Department of Public Works in the area during which the progress of the reconstruction works and sidewalks in the area.

In her statements, the Minister stated that "it is a fact that we see a great progress in relation to what we saw a few days ago in the office with the Mayor of Paralimni but also during the visit we made on the spot last March. This is due to the cooperation of all and the effort and the proper organization of all the teams ".

We hope he continued that "the project will be completed and opened soon, which we actually expected to finish earlier. However, after coordinated efforts, I think that the goal has been achieved, the project has not been completed, but we are very close and the schedules are being met now ".

Answering a relevant question, Ms. Anastasiadi congratulated both "the Director of the Department of Public Works, Chrystalla Mallouppa, and all the collaborating bodies for the result."

For her part, Ms. Mallouppa said that "a special effort was made by the project supervision team and with the very close cooperation of course with the Mayor of Paralimni. We tried and set milestones in the monitoring of the project, we come on stage regularly and as we see the contractor responded ".

In a relevant question, he answered that "the contractor has managed it on his own and I think he will continue until the last day that the schedules have been set to complete the project, ie by the end of May".

For his part, the Mayor of Paralimni, Theodoros Pyrillis, stated that "it would be a good idea not to be here today. However, with the data that had been created and thanks to the efforts of the Minister of Transport and the Department of Public Works, we see that a tremendous progress has been made in the work that has been done in the area, they are still lagging behind but we are satisfied with the pace at which the contractor works today. for completion of the project ".

At the same time, he expressed the hope that "we will be able to meet the schedules by the end of May, when almost the entire project will be completed and there will be some small works that will not affect tourism, because" as he explained "above all we must think that this area, will have 25 thousand tourists "during the summer.

Answering a relevant question, Mr. Pyrillis said that "in cooperation with the Department of Urban Planning, the Department of Public Works and the Department of Traffic Studies, we have removed the islets and the flowers that existed on the sidewalks. We have left only basins for tall trees and this was done for the benefit of the pedestrian because people should walk comfortably on the sidewalks ".

He also said that if the sidewalks are 1.50 or two meters wide, then it is not enough for the number of tourists that exist every year in the area. The Municipality of Paralimni expects the project to be completed and then the Law and the order will be implemented ".

He added that "from what we have seen in the last month it shows that we are moving in the right direction and that is why we declare our satisfaction today. "If things are a little different then we should see how we are moving forward," he said, noting that "we have confidence in both the Minister and the Director of the Public Works Department that they are closely monitoring the project and that we will be able to cope."
