Konstantinos Petridis calls on the Mayor of Paralimni to stop all the works that are being carried out on the beaches. In yesterday's announcement The Minister of Interior requests from the Municipality of Paralimni the immediate cessation of any unlicensed intervention on the beaches carried out by the Local Authority.

Such as said in a statement the Minister of the Interior, "It is the responsibility and duty of all to ensure full compliance with the relevant legislation and to prevent illegally licensed interventions, which in fact give the impression to the citizens that the state, including the Local Authorities, can encourage or even tolerate such actions on the beaches "

For his part, the Mayor of Paralimni, Theodoros Pyrillis, states that the work of the Municipality of Paralimni is within the framework of legality.

He mentioned that “The Municipality of Paralimni acts and executes works in accordance with the current laws that exist both for the protection of the beach and those provided in the Law on Municipalities, as well as the laws related to the environment. No violation is done. However, I want to say that the Municipality of Paralimni was targeted and at the same time, at the moment we are talking, work is being done by individuals, within the Beach Protection Zone and nothing is happening, no one is saying anything. They are covered to the detriment of the public interest. "

In its announcement, the Ministry of Interior announces that next Monday a meeting has been convened under the chairmanship of Konstantinos Petridis and in which all relevant departments have been invited as well as the Police to prepare a comprehensive action plan for effective protection of beaches.

The Mayor of Paralimni stated that he welcomes the Monday meeting convened by the Minister of Interior on the issue with all the District Administrations and the Department of Environment under his chairmanship and expressed his hope that the legislation is applied evenly throughout Cyprus and not to target the Municipality of Paralimni and the province of Famagusta in relation to the other provinces.

It is recalled that last Thursday, the Ministry of Interior had sent a statement informing that cases of illegal intervention on beaches are being investigated against the Municipality of Paralimni, assuring that all appropriate measures are being taken.
