Six dead cows have been washed away in the last 10 days in the sea area of Paralimni, according to information from the OffsiteCy website. Impressive is the fact that the Municipality of Paralimni, as we are informed, did not inform the competent Veterinary Services regarding the location of the dead animals, in order to carry out a check regarding their marking or in case of possible disease.

In fact, in a telephone conversation we had with the Director of Veterinary Services, Christodoulos Pipi, he himself expressed his surprise regarding the location of the animals.

The cows were found in the Gulf of Siren, in the fishing shelter of Paralimni and in the Gulf of Pernera.

In fact, in one of the six cases, the officials burned the dead cow which was found in the sea area of LEFKOLLA bay, with wood and tires. The incident took place on November 19 when workers of the Municipality were in the area and located the cow which was in advanced decomposition.

Due to the fact that they could not move it as the area was rocky and the animal was decaying, they burned the animal in this unheard of way. The specific act is condemned in his statements on the website, by the Mayor of Paralimni, Theodoros Pyrillis.

.The cow was in advanced decomposition and in a rocky area resulting in the workers committing this act which is condemnable. The procedures were not followed properly and the issue is being investigated while recommendations were made to the employees ", as stated on the website, the Mayor of Paralimni.

As far as the "source" of evil is concerned, no one knows for sure, as Mr. Pyrillis reports, that the dead cows end up in the sea area of Paralimni. The most probable scenario is that ships carrying them throw them into the sea.

Ecologists 'Movement - Citizens' Cooperation: The way of handling is unacceptable

In statements on the website, the Vice President of the Movement of Ecologists - Citizens' Cooperation, stressed that the way in which the workers of the Municipality of Paralimni managed the issue, is considered unacceptable. According to Ms. Xanthou, the manner is indicative of the poor information and education of the Municipalities in terms of the legal framework that governs the work related to cases of locating dead animals.

In fact, Ms. Xanthou states that burning tires is prohibited throughout Cyprus and calls on the authorities to impose the fines provided by law and the Municipality of Paralimni to assure that it has trained its employees and to draw their attention to their illegal act.
