Various infrastructure projects for young people, including the construction of a Social Services Center, are being implemented or are planned to be implemented by the Municipality of Sotira.
As he pointed out to KYPE, the Mayor of Sotira, Georgios Takkas, "for the local authorities, the projects that concern the youth are of great importance and that is why in recent years the Municipality has prioritized development projects that attract young people."
He said that one of these projects is “the Famagusta Youth Employment District of the Cyprus Youth Organization in Sotira, which essentially contributes to the encouragement of creation but also to the support of the youth initiative in various fields. Equally important is the support provided by the Center for Social Services, ie the Cultural Center of the Municipality, which is expected to be completed this summer ".
He added that “this Center will employ both young and retired people every day, thus being a meeting point, communication, exchange of views and housing of artistic creation for all the citizens of Sotira with an emphasis on the new generation. The Center for Social Services will include, among other things, painting, sculpture, dance, music, gymnastics, lectures, an electronic library, a computer room and a cafeteria, ”he added.
Mr. Takkas also said that “at the same time, the issuance of an urban planning permit for the creation of futsal football fields near the recently renovated Sotira Municipal Stadium is expected. A sports center will be created that will be able to host teams and athletes and will encourage the young people of Sotira and the surrounding areas to be involved in sports and physical education ", he noted.
Equally important, the Mayor said, “are the road projects that are being carried out, which will undoubtedly upgrade the living standards of the citizens of Sotira. At the same time, they will contribute to the ease of movement within the road network with the construction of the southern bypass in the area of Vrasta and Acropolis Street, but also with the renovation of Anastaseos, Sotira - Paralimniou and Sotira - Deryneias streets ".
Mr. Takkas also noted that “projects for the reconstruction of the central core of Sotira and the radical upgrade of the coastal front are also of great importance. The upgrade of the coastal front, in combination with the intense interest for investments in the area, will contribute to the upgrading of the coastal area, to the creation of jobs and to the attraction of more young people to remain in their Municipality ", he said.
