SOTIRA: Impressive images from "meeting" snakes (VIDEO)

A beautiful video of a meeting of black snakes in Sotira was sent to Famagusta.News by a reader.

The video shows two black snakes, the well-known pervalarides or "warm" during a meeting.

Of course, it is not easy to determine whether it is a love affair between a male and a female or a battle between two males.

Black snake, "warm" or "pervolari"

Full name: Dolichophis jugularis (Linnaeus, 1758)

Unglyph - Does not contain poison

Probably the largest species of snake in Europe with a length that can reach 3 meters (although it is rare to find a person in Cyprus larger than 2 meters). The form of young people and adults is different. Young individuals are olive green with dark brown flakes on the dorsal surface. During adulthood, this pattern disappears and individuals acquire a uniform glossy black color. It has a thick, muscular body, is very agile and has the ability to climb with great ease. Harmless to humans.

The black snake is protected by National Legislation in accordance with the "Law on the Protection and Management of Nature and Wildlife", while it also belongs to Annex IV of the European Habitats Directive (92/43 EEC), as well as Annex II of the Convention of Bern.
