The General Commissioner of Elections announces that today, from 8:30 am. until 12:30 p.m., the nominations for the positions of Presidents of the Councils of the District Self-Governing Organizations, Mayors, Deputy Mayors, Municipal Councilors and School Board Members were submitted to the Election Commissioners. The whole process went smoothly without any particular problems.
A total of 3.232 nominations were submitted throughout Cyprus, of which 13 concern the Presidents of the five Councils of the District Self-Governing Organizations, 82 the office of Mayor, 257 the office of Deputy Mayor, 2.190 the office of Municipal Councilor and 690 the office of Member of the School Board, in the 29 free and occupied Municipalities of Cyprus.
According to the provisions of the current electoral legislation, a deadline of 24 hours is provided from the expiration of the time for submitting nominations, that is, until 12:30 p.m. of Friday, April 26, 2024, for the submission of any objections against any nomination, for the reasons stated in the relevant Laws. Objections can be submitted to the relevant Election Commissioners. In the event that objections are submitted, they will be examined and decided quickly by the Election Commissioners, so that the nominations can then be finalized and the process of printing the ballots can begin.
