The Famagusta District Court today sentenced the 54-year-old to a nine-month prison sentence for the marine accident that occurred six years ago on 13/8/2017 in the Konno sea area in Protaras and resulted in the serious injury of a 31-year-old British expatriate.
The 54-year-old, who was the operator of the speedboat that hit and injured the two young women, was found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm, driving a speedboat without due care and attention, failing to maintain a safe speed, negligent and reckless acts , while he was also found guilty of offenses related to violations of international rules to avoid collisions at sea.
It is recalled that while the 54-year-old was a speed boat operator, he was involved in a marine accident with a towing inflatable that was being towed by a water sports boat, resulting in the serious injury of a 31-year-old expatriate from Britain who was 25 years old at the time of the dispute.
