A delegation of the Famagusta Chamber of Commerce and Industry met yesterday, according to an announcement, with the Minister of Energy, Trade, Industry and Tourism, Mr. George Lakkotrypis, with whom he discussed various issues concerning the Province and the business world of Famagusta.

Specifically, EVEA made the following requests:

  • The creation of a Ministry of Tourism based in free Famagusta.
  • The promotion of infrastructure projects that will support the continuous increase of hotel beds (water supply, energy, road network, etc.).
  • The quality upgrade of the tourist product and the extension of the tourist season.
  • The development of the services sector and renewable energy sources in the free province of Famagusta.
  • Providing incentives and training for the unemployed and foreigners for their employment in the hotel industry.
  • The construction of parallel jetties in the sea area of ​​Sotiras for the improvement of the beaches of the area.
  • The immediate implementation of the Liopetri River rehabilitation project.
  • The creation of a new industrial area in the Free Region of Famagusta.
  • Tackling unfair competition from unlicensed accommodation and channeling tourists to the occupied territories.

Commenting on the positions of EVEA, Mr. Lakkotrypis said that the Ministry has taken into account the suggestions of EVEA to promote development projects and will support all efforts of the business world to attract new investments in the free area of ​​Famagusta, especially in the fields of energy. , education and industry.

Regarding tourism issues, the Minister pointed out that EVEA and all agencies should work for the implementation of the new strategic plan for tourism with the aim of upgrading the quality of the tourism product and extending the tourist season.

Regarding the Ministry of Tourism, Mr. Lakkotrypis noted that this will be done with the abolition of the CTO and the transfer of its 300 employees under the new political chief and therefore it is not possible to transfer him to Famagusta or another province.

Mr. Lakkotrypis also stated that the Ministry supports the Chamber institution and is ready to help the whole business world of Famagusta to use the plans - sponsorships of the Ministry as well as other European programs and investment initiatives in cooperation with CIPA, EVEA and the CCCI.
