The District Court of Larnaca issued a detention order for a period of 8 days against the 23-year-old who was arrested and detained for the case of the arrival of 236 illegal immigrants on Tuesday night from Lebanon. The 23-year-old was reportedly the boat's navigator.
The suspect is being examined for offenses involving, among other things, entering the territory of the Republic, assisting the illegal entry of persons from a third country into the Republic, assisting persons from a third country with intent and with the aim of obtaining profit, transporting persons by waterway in an unsafe and overloaded vessel and conspiracy to commit a felony.
The boat was spotted 35 nautical miles east of Cabo Greco and the irregular migrants were safely transported to Larnaca Port and then to the Pournara Migrant Temporary Accommodation Center in Kokkinotrimithia.
