At the gates is a legal framework, which will allow European citizens to work in Cyprus, on a permanent or temporary basis, in all professions, which are regulated in our country.

A basic condition for obtaining a work permit is the recognition of the professional qualifications of those interested, something that for years was a "thorn", as the recognition of qualifications from one country of the European Union to another, was not so easy.

Until the European Parliament passed a relevant harmonizing directive in 2013, which the Member States are called upon to adopt.

To this end, the Ministry of Labor - according to the newspaper "Phileleftheros", has drafted a relevant bill, which has already been submitted to Parliament and which includes, among other things, the following amendments:

- Introduction of the institution of European Professional Identity.
Recognition of traineeship in another Member State.
- Warning mechanism in case of imposition of penalties on professionals, in the fields of health and education of minors.
Transparency between the competent authorities of the Member States in matters relating to access to regulated professions.

The approval of the bill will "open" - in essence - a long list of 100 scientific, medical, paramedical and technical professions,
involving a wide range of professionals, from doctors, architects, to hairdressers.

An important step is the introduction of the European Professional Identity, which aims to facilitate the mobility of professionals within the Union.

It is an electronic certificate, which will prove that the professional meets all the necessary conditions for the provision of services in another country, while its use is faster than the traditional procedures for recognition of professional qualifications, but also more transparent.

The European Professional Identity, known as EPC, is used - currently - by professionals in only 5 professions, which are:

1. General care nurses.
2. Pharmacists.
3. Physiotherapists.
4. Mountaineering guides.
5. Real estate agents.

The EPC process is expected to be extended to other professions in the future.
