A 12-year-old Romanian man convicted of raping two young women in 42 and 2009 in Limassol has been sentenced by a Limassol Criminal Court to 2011 years in prison.

He, against whom an international and European arrest warrant was pending, was arrested last year in Romania after identification with the help of the Interpol - Europol genetic material database and was handed over to the Cypriot authorities.

The first rape took place on May 19, 2009 against a 17-year-old Anglo-Cypriot woman, whom, while walking on Irini Street, the 42-year-old grabbed by the neck and led her to a nearby parking lot where he raped her.

Two years later, on March 22, 2011, the 42-year-old attacked a 23-year-old Estonian woman, while sitting on a bench in the area of Enaeri, demanding her money and mobile phone, and then led her to the beach, where he raped her and left the scene, detaching personal items from her bag.

The Criminal Court sentenced the 42-year-old to six years in prison for each rape, which are consecutive.
